Venturing Out with Iris and Momo

In about 2 weeks, Paper Moon Repertory opens its first show: The Adventures of Iris & Momo! It must be at the surface of my brain because I had a dream last night that the show was being done in Dallas, and we had to do a performance in a stadium while a baseball game was going on. Nice to have such a large audience--perhaps not so nice that none of them were there to see theatre. I'm pretty sure the real show won't involve astroturf, locker rooms, or bats--although you never know what will happen in live theatre.

Suffice it to say that we're excited about opening, and we move into the space at Austin Playhouse on Monday. We've done what seems to be a million shows between the two of us (Dave & Rach), but there's something very standing-in-front-of-the-class-in-your-underwear about putting up a show when you've written the script and you're producing. And you're portraying a character who is almost 30 years your junior (Rachel) or playing 5 different characters (Dave). In fact, there was a component of my dream last night that involved the audience seeing both of us in a partial state of dress. But, this show is for youth audiences, and worry not...there will be fully clothed actors, even if the creators' minds are exposed.

And about this being a youth audience show...the topic of Iris & Momo is pretty near and dear to me. It's about overcoming fear and finding hopeful ways to look at life--something that, as an adult--I'm still learning. But what has already been learned has been put into words and actions, and we're both so glad that there's the possibility to trigger a good way of thinking for anyone (young or old) who may be watching. So, regardless of your age, pop on by the theatre for some ducks, mini golf, space shuttles, and peace of mind--or just to see Rachel as a 5 year-old and Dave in a monkey suit. We'll save you a seat.
